Early Life and Education
Shri Ram Sewak Yadav was born on 2 July 1926 in Village Tala, located in Bara Banki district, Uttar Pradesh. He began his education at Behta Lower Primary School. Later, he graduated in 1949 from Kanya Kubja College, Lucknow, and earned his LL.B. degree from Lucknow University.
Early Political Involvement
From a young age, Shri Ram Sewak Yadav showed deep interest in the political and social issues of the country. During his college years, he actively participated in student movements and was imprisoned for his involvement. He remained associated with the Students Congress from 1946 to 1951.
Role in Peasant and Social Movements
He strongly supported farmers and rural communities. During 1953–54, he was fined for his active role in the cane-growers agitation in Bara Banki district. He was also jailed more than once for participating in movements demanding:
- Reduction in canal rates
- Abolition of land revenue
- Rights of farmers and labourers
Political Career
Shri Ram Sewak Yadav held many important political positions, including:
- Member, District Executive, Praja Socialist Party (from 1952 onwards)
- Joint Secretary, PSP (1952–54)
- Socialist Party, Bara Banki District (1955–56)
- General Secretary, All India Samyukta Socialist Party
He was elected as a Member of Parliament successively to the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Lok Sabhas. He also served as:
- Chairman, Public Accounts Committee
- Leader of the Opposition
- Member, Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha
Commitment to Social Justice
Shri Ram Sewak Yadav dedicated his life to the upliftment of the backward and economically weaker sections of society. He worked tirelessly to eliminate social evils such as untouchability and often provided free legal advice to the poor.
He believed that true economic progress must improve the living conditions of agricultural labourers in India’s villages.
Death and Legacy
Shri Ram Sewak Yadav remained devoted to public service until his untimely death in 1974. He is remembered as a sincere leader, champion of social justice, and voice of farmers and the underprivileged.
