Surakshit Jayen, Prashikshit Jayen – Go Safe, Go Trained: A Commemorative Stamp for Safe and Legal Migration

As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, the dream of seeking better opportunities abroad has become a common aspiration for many Indians. However, this rising interest in international migration has also seen a parallel surge in fraudulent and illegal migration practices, often putting the lives and livelihoods of migrants at great risk.

To address this growing concern, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has launched a robust awareness campaign titled “Surakshit Jayen, Prashikshit Jayen – Go Safe, Go Trained.” In recognition of this important initiative, the Department of Posts is proud to release a Commemorative Postage Stamp during the 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention, held from 8–10 January 2023 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

The Need for Safe and Skilled Migration

Illegal migration often lures individuals with false promises of better livelihoods, only to subject them to unsafe working conditions, exploitation by illegal employers, and exclusion from official welfare or legal support systems. Migrants using unauthorized channels may be forced to work in hazardous environments for meager wages, live in deplorable conditions, and face constant fear of deportation or abuse.

In this context, the MEA has taken proactive steps to promote safe, legal, and skilled migration. The focus is on ensuring that Indian workers going abroad are well-informed, trained, and protected. The ministry is continuously working to align its eMigrate platform with other Indian ministries and the governments of host countries, helping to streamline overseas job opportunities and promote the skilling of prospective migrants.

The ‘Go Safe, Go Trained’ Campaign

Launched under the banner “Surakshit Jayen, Prashikshit Jayen,” this nationwide campaign is designed to:

  • Raise awareness about the risks of illegal migration,
  • Promote the use of legal migration channels,
  • Encourage pre-departure training and orientation,
  • And empower Indian citizens with the knowledge and skills needed for overseas employment.

The campaign has already been implemented through awareness workshops, Pre-Departure Orientation and Training (PDOT) programs, and collaborations with State governments and stakeholders across India. These efforts aim to ensure that every prospective migrant becomes part of a safe and sustainable international workforce.

Commemorative Stamp: Spreading the Message Nationwide

To further amplify the message and give it national visibility, the Department of Posts has issued a Commemorative Postage Stamp carrying the powerful tagline:

“Surakshit Jayen, Prashikshit Jayen – Go Safe, Go Trained”

Released during the prestigious 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention, this stamp not only honors the campaign but also reinforces the government’s commitment to the safety and empowerment of Indian migrants abroad.

The stamp serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible migration, and is aimed at reaching the hands and hearts of people across the country—particularly youth and potential overseas job seekers. By giving this campaign a philatelic platform, the MEA and the Department of Posts aim to create lasting awareness and reduce the vulnerabilities associated with unsafe migration.

A Valuable Addition for Philatelists and Citizens Alike

This commemorative stamp is a symbol of social responsibility and national awareness, making it a significant piece for philatelic collectors, migration experts, and concerned citizens alike. It represents a collective call to action—for a future where every Indian going abroad does so legally, safely, and skilled.

Conclusion

The “Surakshit Jayen, Prashikshit Jayen” stamp is more than just a postal issue it is a powerful communication tool advocating for safe, legal, and trained migration. Through this initiative, the Ministry of External Affairs, in collaboration with the Department of Posts, is building a foundation for a more secure and empowered Indian diaspora.

As India continues to grow on the global stage, this stamp marks a new chapter in promoting ethical and sustainable international migration one that upholds the dignity, rights, and well-being of every Indian migrant.
