Diamond Jubilee of the High Court of Gujarat

The High Court of Gujarat was established on 1st May 1960, following the bifurcation of the erstwhile State of Bombay into Maharashtra and Gujarat. Initially, it began functioning near Akashvani, Navrangpura, Ahmedabad, under the stewardship of Hon’ble Mr. Justice S. T. Desai, the first Chief Justice, along with four puisne Judges.

On 16th January 1999, the High Court was shifted to its present premises at Sola, S.G. Highway, Ahmedabad, a modern complex inaugurated on 2nd March 1997. Over the past six decades, the Gujarat Judiciary has produced several eminent jurists who have adorned the benches of the Hon’ble High Court and the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India with distinction.

The Diamond Jubilee Stamp

To mark its Diamond Jubilee in 2020, the High Court of Gujarat conceptualized a unique diamond-shaped Commemorative Postage Stamp. The stamp depicts the front façade of the High Court building, with the Scales of Justice embedded at the top and the Court’s emblem engraved prominently. The border carries the inscriptions in Hindi and English:

“1960–2020 | Diamond Jubilee | The High Court of Gujarat | India 2020”

Though originally planned for release in 2020, the stamp was formally issued on 6th February 2021, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. The design was finalized under the guidance of the then Chief Justice, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Vikram Nath, by the Hon’ble Judges of the Postal Stamp Committee for the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations.

Philatelic Tribute

The Department of Posts is proud to release this Commemorative Postage Stamp on the Diamond Jubilee of the High Court of Gujarat, honouring its legacy of justice, service, and commitment to the motto “Satyamev Jayate”.
