A Turning Point in the Ramayana

One of the most powerful and emotional episodes of the Ramayana is when Hanuman finds Sita in Lanka. This moment marks a crucial turning point in the epic, symbolizing devotion, courage, intelligence, and unwavering faith in Lord Ram.

The Mission to Lanka

After Ravana abducted Sita and took her to Lanka, Lord Ram and Lakshman were grief-stricken. Determined to rescue her, they formed an alliance with Sugriva, the king of the Vanaras. Hanuman, the most devoted and powerful among them, was chosen to search for Sita.

With Lord Ram’s blessings and carrying his signet ring as proof of identity, Hanuman leapt across the vast ocean toward Lanka in a single mighty bound. His flight across the sea reflected his immense strength, faith, and dedication.

Discovery in Ashok Vatika

Upon reaching Lanka, Hanuman searched tirelessly through the city. After exploring Ravana’s grand palaces and gardens, he finally found Sita in Ashok Vatika, sitting beneath a tree, sorrowful and surrounded by demonesses.

Sita remained steadfast in her virtue and devotion to Ram despite Ravana’s threats and temptations. She refused to submit, holding firmly to her faith and righteousness.

The Symbol of Trust – Ram’s Ring

Hanuman approached Sita with utmost humility and caution. To gain her trust, he narrated the story of Ram and Lakshman and presented Ram’s ring as proof that he was indeed Ram’s messenger.

Seeing the ring, Sita was overwhelmed with emotion. Tears of relief and hope filled her eyes. For the first time since her abduction, she felt reassured that Ram would come to rescue her.

In return, she gave Hanuman her chudamani (ornament) as a token for Ram, conveying her message and unwavering devotion.

Devotion and Courage

Hanuman’s meeting with Sita was not only a successful mission but also a demonstration of:

  • Absolute devotion (bhakti) to Lord Ram
  • Intelligence and diplomacy
  • Fearlessness in the face of danger
  • Compassion and reassurance

Before leaving Lanka, Hanuman also displayed his valor by confronting Ravana’s forces and setting parts of Lanka ablaze, sending a powerful message that Ram’s army would soon arrive.

Symbolic Importance

The episode of Hanuman finding Sita represents:

  • Hope in times of despair
  • Faith rewarded through perseverance
  • The power of devotion combined with action
  • The beginning of the end of Ravana’s reign

It strengthens the central theme of the Ramayana—the ultimate victory of Dharma over Adharma.
