United Theological College, Bangalore was founded on 08th July 1910 to train leaders for the church and society in India. From a small beginning with about ten students, and seven staff, the college has now grown to train more than 160 students. The UTC, which trains clergy from all denominations, was the first institution of its kind and composition in the history of Christianity. It has produced leaders who have served society over the last one hundred years.

From time to time the college receives special students and visiting teams from India and abroad for specialised training and interaction. The college has a well endowed library, one of the best theological libraries in the world. Imprints and manuscripts more than a hundred years old are preserved in the archives of the library. Situated at the heart of the city, seminars, workshops and public lectures are organized here. It stands out as an icon and serves the intellectual life of the city.

The college has welcomed world leaders. Mahatma Gandhi visited it in 1927 and declared, “To live the gospel is the most effective way … I can say that the life of service and uttermost simplicity is the best preaching”. The UTC encourages community members to be its best citizens with commitment to justice and nation building. The campus of UTC is studded with old sprawling trees, has quite a few heritage buildings including its main block. The well maintained garden is cynosure of all eyes.

UTC is on the threshold of its centenary celebrations. India Post is happy to issue a commemorative postage stamp on the United Theological College.
