India and the Philippines share warm and friendly ties, based on historical, cultural and civilisational connections, shared values and common interests. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were formally established in November 1949.
The Philippines is a key pillar in India’s Act East Policy, Vision MAHASAGAR, vision of the Indo-Pacific, and is a close partner in India’s Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with ASEAN.
In recent years, the multifaceted cooperation between India and the Philippines has grown significantly. High-level political dialogues, expanding trade and commerce, growing defence and maritime partnerships, including Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR), cooperation in the areas of science and technology, digital and financial technologies, agriculture, and people-to-people exchanges are some of the key aspects of our bilateral engagement.
India and the Philippines are commemorating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. As part of the commemorative celebrations, this postage stamp set, themed on ‘National Flowers’ [Lotus (India) and Sampaguita (Philippines)] is being issued. The design symbolises the enduring friendship, close cultural connections and shared values between the two countries.
