About this stamp
Moirang Phee is the traditional handwoven textile of the Meitei community of Manipur, originating in Moirang in Bishnupur district. Woven mainly in cotton, it has the distinctive Moirang Pheejin motif along its borders. According to local tradition the motif is inspired by the teeth of Pakhangba, the mythical serpent deity of Manipur, which gives the cloth its other name, Yarong Phee.
