On June 11, 1969, India Post issued a 20 paise commemorative stamp in memory of Dr. Zakir Husain, the third President of India and one of the nation's most respected educators. Decades earlier, long before ascending to the highest office in the land, he had responded to Mahatma Gandhi’s non-cooperation movement with a historically bold step: at just twenty-three years old, he helped co-found the Jamia Millia Islamia university to provide a purely Indian national education free from British colonial control. The 1969 issue—released just over a month after he tragically passed away while in office—wasn’t just celebrating a political title; it was looking back at a brilliant moment when a true scholar used the power of education to proudly unite and build the intellectual foundation of a newly independent nation.
