Establishment and Early Vision
The Postal Training Centre was established on 2 April 1951 to strengthen the administrative framework of independent India by providing systematic and institutional training to postal personnel. Before its creation, employees largely depended on informal on-the-job training.
Under the leadership of Rafi Ahmed Kidwai, then Minister for Transport, Civil Aviation, and Communications, a 56.71-acre campus previously used for Civil Aviation training was transferred to the Department of Posts and Telegraphs.
Today, the Centre stands as a symbol of discipline, efficiency, and service spirit within the Department of Posts.
Historical Evolution
Originally named the Posts and Telegraph Training Centre, the institution trained personnel of both postal and telegraph services.
After the departmental bifurcation on 1 January 1985, it was renamed the Postal Training Centre and thereafter focused exclusively on training postal staff.
