About this stamp

The Hoolock Gibbon is one of six stamps on the Flora and Fauna of Arunachal Pradesh souvenir sheet, part of the Arunachal Pradesh Commemorative Postage Stamp Series issued on 17 July 2026.

About the Hoolock Gibbon

The hoolock gibbon of north-eastern India is the western hoolock gibbon (Hoolock hoolock), a small ape that moves through the forest canopy by swinging from branch to branch. Like other gibbons, mated pairs sing loud duets.

Its range takes in the seven north-eastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh, where a subspecies, the Mishmi Hills hoolock gibbon, was recently described. Forest loss has cut its numbers sharply since the 1980s.
