About this stamp

Phanishwar Nath Renu

Phanishwar Nath Renu (1921–1977) was one of the great Hindi writers of his time. His first novel, Maila Anchal (1954), portrayed the life of a village in Bihar with such sensitivity that it changed the structure and style of the Hindi novel and brought regional life into the national literature. He returned his Padma Shri in protest during the Emergency.

India Post issued eight ₹5 stamps on 26 December 2016 in a Personality Series: Bihar, designed by Nenu Gupta and Alka Sharma and printed by Security Printing Press, Hyderabad, 2 lakh of each. The brochure’s scan is partly illegible, so these texts also draw on Wikipedia.
