In January 1863, The Cuttack High School, established in January 1841, was expanded to provide collegiate education. Renamed Ravenshaw College in 1878 in recognition of the contributions made by the then Commissioner of the Cuttack Division, Mr. Ravenshaw, towards the advancement of higher education in the state. Over the past century, hundreds of distinguished individuals who have shaped the destiny of Odisha have walked through the halls of this institution. The journey of Ravenshaw College mirrors the evolution of modern Odisha.
Ravenshaw College offers teaching and research facilities across various disciplines, including science, humanities, social sciences, and commerce. Presently, the college accommodates approximately 5,000 students, including those enrolled in the Evening Section, Wireless Training Section, and I.A.S. coaching class. It is situated across an expansive area of about one hundred acres. The Indian Posts and Telegraphs Department considers it an honor to issue a commemorative stamp in tribute to this esteemed institution.
