About this stamp

On the Sheet

A ₹15 miniature sheet holding the stamp of parakeets at their nest, a child’s painting.

Children’s Day 2017: Nest

Since 2015 the Department of Posts has held a national stamp design competition for Republic Day, Independence Day and Children’s Day. For Children’s Day 2017 the theme was “Nest”, chosen because a nest stands both for the thriving of life and for the care that surrounds small children, and to make children aware that harm to an ecosystem threatens a whole cycle of life. From the selected paintings of birds’ nests came two ₹15 stamps, each in its own ₹15 miniature sheet, ten maximum cards, a first day cover and a brochure, designed by Alka Sharma. Security Printing Press, Hyderabad printed 0.5 million of each stamp and 0.11 million of each sheet.
