About this stamp

On the Sheetlet

A ₹360 sheetlet holding four of each of the six metal craft stamps: the iron surahi, the bronze Nataraja, the copper paan daan, the brass incense burner, the silver spouted lota and the gold Gajalakshmi lamp. 25,250 were printed.

Indian Metal Crafts

India Post issued six stamps on Indian metal crafts on 26 August 2016, from material from the National Museum, Delhi. India’s metal craft goes back to the Harappan civilisation, whose bronze dancing girl shows the skill of its craftsmen; later high points are the Chola bronzes and the iron pillar at Mehrauli. Craftsmen work in iron, copper, silver, bronze, bell metal and white metal, and cast sculptures by the lost-wax process. The stamps were designed by Brahm Prakash; Security Printing Press, Hyderabad printed 0.2 million of each, 0.1 million miniature sheets and 25,250 sheetlets.
