Swachh Bharat

India Post issued three ₹5 stamps and a ₹15 miniature sheet on 30 January 2015 on Swachh Bharat. The Swachh Bharat Mission, launched on 2 October 2014 as a mass movement for a clean India, aimed to make India free of open defecation by 2 October 2019, the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, to whom cleanliness was close to the heart, through toilets for every household and the management of solid and liquid waste. The Prime Minister urged everyone to give at least a hundred hours a year, two hours a week, to cleanliness. The Department of Posts held an all-India stamp design competition on the theme “Clean India”, and the stamps were designed by Sankha Samanta from the shortlisted entries; Security Printing Press, Hyderabad printed 0.5 million of each and 0.2 million sheets.
