About this stamp

On the Stamp

A player in a red shirt running in to strike at goal, on a ₹5 stamp.

2014 FIFA World Cup

India Post issued four stamps, two at ₹5 and two at ₹25, and a ₹60 miniature sheet on 12 June 2014, the opening day of the 20th FIFA World Cup in Brazil, showing action on the field and the mascot Fuleco. FIFA, the governing body of football, was founded in Paris in May 1904 by seven members and is based in Zurich; the first World Cup, Jules Rimet’s idea, was held in Uruguay in 1930. In 2014, 32 teams in eight groups played from 12 June to the final on 13 July. The tournament’s mascot Fuleco, a name made from the Portuguese words for football and ecology, was meant to raise awareness of the environment. The stamps were designed by Kamleshwar Singh; India Security Press, Nashik printed 0.9 million of each stamp and 0.4 million sheets.
