The International Year of Biodiversity
India Post issued two stamps, ₹5 and ₹20, and a ₹25 miniature sheet on 5 June 2010 for the International Year of Biodiversity. The United Nations General Assembly declared 2010 the year of biodiversity in 2006, to raise awareness of the importance of biological diversity and to bring it “nearer to the top of the political agenda”. The two stamps show life on farmland and in a wetland. India Post’s brochure for this issue is not online, so this text draws on Wikipedia and on the stamps themselves.
