About this stamp

On the Stamp

Rabindranath Tagore

India Post issued two ₹5 stamps and a ₹10 miniature sheet on 7 May 2011, the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore (1861–1941), poet, writer, composer, philosopher and painter, and one of the foremost figures of the Bengal Renaissance. In 1913 he became the first non-European to win a Nobel Prize, for literature, and he wrote and composed the national anthems of India and Bangladesh. India Post’s brochure for this issue is not online, so this text draws on Wikipedia and on the stamps themselves.
