About this stamp

Fifty Years of Bhakra

India Post issued this ₹5 stamp on 22 October 2013 for fifty years of the Bhakra Dam, completed at the end of 1963, which Jawaharlal Nehru called the “New Temple of Resurgent India”. The concrete gravity dam stands 226 metres high on the Sutlej at Bhakra in Bilaspur district, Himachal Pradesh, and its reservoir, the Gobind Sagar, stretches 90 kilometres and stores up to 9.34 billion cubic metres of water. It is the tallest gravity dam in Asia.

India Post has no brochure for this issue online, so this text draws on Wikipedia.
