India and Canada Celebrate Diwali

India and Canada issued their first joint stamps, on the theme of Diwali, on 21 September 2017, as Canada marked 150 years of Confederation and India 70 years of independence. The issue honours the Indian diaspora’s place in Canada’s multicultural life. Diwali, the festival of a row of lamps, celebrates Rama’s return to Ayodhya and is marked with lamps, prayers to Lakshmi and Ganesha, and fireworks. India Post’s stamps, ₹5 and ₹25, and the ₹30 miniature sheet were designed by Alka Sharma; Security Printing Press, Hyderabad printed 305,000 of each stamp and 1.1 lakh sheets.
