About this stamp

On the Stamp

Jigrr, the tiger mascot of the Pune Games, running with a torch.

The III Commonwealth Youth Games

India Post issued four ₹5 stamps and a ₹20 miniature sheet on 12 October 2008, the opening day of the third Commonwealth Youth Games, held at Pune from 12 to 18 October. Over 1,300 athletes from 71 countries took part; they were the first Commonwealth Youth Games held in Asia. The stamps show the tiger mascot Jigrr with a torch, wrestling, badminton and hurdling. India Post’s brochure for this issue is not online, so this text draws on Wikipedia and on the stamps themselves.
