The Paradise Lake of Arunachal Pradesh

Sela Lake, often referred to as Paradise Lake, is one of the most scenic high-altitude lakes in the eastern Himalayas. The lake is located on the route to Tawang, near the famous Sela Pass, which is considered the second-highest motorable mountain pass in the world.

Situated at an altitude of approximately 13,500 feet above sea level, Sela Lake is known for its breathtaking surroundings and tranquil beauty. The lake is nearly circular in shape, with a circumference of about 2.1 kilometers and a depth of around 6 meters. Throughout most of the year, the lake remains surrounded by snow and ice, enhancing its pristine and dramatic landscape.

Sela Lake is also known for its aquatic life, particularly Trout, which thrive in its cold waters. The serene setting, combined with the snow-covered mountains and the clear sky reflections on the lake’s surface, creates an unforgettable natural spectacle.

Recognizing the ecological and scenic importance of these high-altitude water bodies, India Post issued a commemorative postage stamp celebrating the Himalayan Lakes of India, including the beautiful and serene Sela Lake.
