About this stamp
United through Oceans
India Post issued this ₹5 stamp on 6 February 2016, the day the President of India reviewed the International Fleet Review 2016 off Visakhapatnam. Fleet reviews began as shows of naval might; today they are occasions for navies to meet in friendship. India had held ten reviews since 1953, and only one earlier international review, off Mumbai in February 2001.
The Review
Once in his term the President, as Supreme Commander of the armed forces, reviews the Indian fleet in the President’s Fleet Review. When other nations are invited to send their ships, it becomes an International Fleet Review, a chance for the host to show its own naval strength and the bridges of trust it has built with maritime partners. The theme of the 2016 review was “United through Oceans”; its logo shows the Navy’s three dimensions, a ship, a submarine and an aircraft, with the letters IFR, and its mascot was a dolphin, for friendship across the oceans.
The stamp was designed by Nenu Gupta; Security Printing Press, Hyderabad printed 602,000.
