About this stamp

Sahir Ludhianvi

India Post issued this ₹5 stamp on 8 March 2013, his 92nd birth anniversary, for Sahir Ludhianvi (1921–1980), the Urdu poet and one of the greatest film lyricists of twentieth-century India. Born Abdul Hayee at Ludhiana on 8 March 1921, he took his pen name from his home town. His songs shaped Hindi cinema; he won the Filmfare Award for best lyrics for Taj Mahal (1963) and Kabhi Kabhie (1976), and received the Padma Shri in 1971.
