About this stamp

About Kevat

Kevat, the boatman, is one of the devotees of Shri Ram in the Ramayana. With Lord Ganesh, Lord Hanuman, Jatayu and Ma Shabri, he is one of the figures from Shri Ram’s story chosen for the six stamps of this sheet.

On the Stamp

This ₹5 stamp is one of six on the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Temple miniature sheet, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi released on 18 January 2024, days before the temple’s consecration. The six stamps show the Ram Temple, Lord Ganesh, Lord Hanuman, Jatayu, Kevatraj and Ma Shabri, and the design draws on the temple, the chaupai “Mangal Bhavan Amangal Hari”, the sun, the Saryu river and sculptures in and around the temple.

The stamps were printed with water and sand from the Ram Janmbhoomi and carry the fragrance of sandalwood, and parts of the sheet are gold-foiled. It was designed by Sankha Samanta and printed by wet offset at the Security Printing Press, Hyderabad.
