About this stamp

On the Stamps

Two ₹4 stamps side by side: Gandhi walking along the shore with his companions, his arms round two of them, and Gandhi in profile, with the saffron and green of the flag at the edges.

Mahatma Gandhi: Man of the Millennium

India Post issued two ₹4 stamps, printed together as a se-tenant pair, on 2 October 2001, under the title “Mahatma Gandhi: Man of the Millennium”. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was an Indian lawyer, anti-colonial nationalist and political ethicist who used non-violent resistance to lead the campaign for India’s independence from British rule. India Post’s brochure for this issue is not online, so this text draws on Wikipedia and on the stamps themselves.
