A Saint of the Shadani Tradition
Pujya Mata Sahib Hasi Devi was born in 1826 at Khanpur Mahar in Sindh. In 1852, at the age of 26, she became the first woman spiritual head in the Shadani saint tradition and the fifth Peethadheeshwar of the Shadani Darbar Tirth, which she led for the next 57 years.
Education and Service
She devoted her life to the welfare of the poor, widows and orphans, and placed great emphasis on education. Under her guidance the Sant Shadaram Dharmik Pathshala was established in 1907 to teach Hindi, Sanskrit and music to both boys and girls. She was known for organising continuous community kitchens, including during a severe famine in Sindh.
In 1858 the Shri Guru Granth Sahib and the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita were installed at Shadani Darbar Hayat Pitafi under her inspiration. She attained Brahmaleen on 30 April 1909. The Department of Posts issued a commemorative postage stamp in her honour on 22 October 2026.
