About this stamp

Two Hundred Years of a Rajputana Rifles Battalion

India Post issued this ₹5 stamp on 3 November 2018 for the bicentenary of the 3rd Battalion, The Rajputana Rifles, raised in 1818. India Post’s brochure for this issue is not available online, so this account draws on the stamp and on Wikipedia.

The Rajputana Rifles is the oldest rifle regiment of the Indian Army. When it was formed by bringing six regiments of the British Indian Army together as the 6th Rajputana Rifles, the old 122nd Rajputana Infantry became its 3rd Battalion. The regiment won gallantry awards in both world wars and passed to the Indian Army at independence in 1947.

On the Stamp

Three soldiers of the battalion in the uniforms of different eras, from a red coat of the nineteenth century to today’s dress uniform with medals, beside the regimental crest, with “200 years, 1818–2018”. According to Colnect it was designed by Kamleshwar Singh and printed at the Security Printing Press, Hyderabad.
