“Vigraha”, Dornier Aircraft and Sandhayak Class Survey Ship

ICGS Vigraha is an Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) of the Indian Coast Guard. It is designed to patrol India’s maritime zones and ensure safety and security at sea. The vessel performs important duties such as coastal surveillance, anti-smuggling operations, protection of marine resources, and search and rescue missions.

Ships like Vigraha also support the Indian Navy during emergencies or wartime. Its inclusion in the Indian Naval Fleet Review 2006 highlighted the crucial role played by the Indian Coast Guard in strengthening India’s maritime security.

Dornier Do 228

The Dornier Do 228 is a twin-engine maritime patrol aircraft used by the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard.

This aircraft is specially equipped for coastal surveillance, reconnaissance, search and rescue operations, and maritime monitoring. It helps detect suspicious vessels, monitor sea traffic, and assist in disaster relief operations along India’s coastline.

During the Indian Naval Fleet Review 2006, the Dornier aircraft represented the air surveillance and reconnaissance capability that supports naval forces at sea.

Sandhayak-class survey vessel

The Sandhayak-class survey vessel is a specialized vessel used by the Indian Navy for hydrographic surveying and oceanographic research.

These ships collect crucial information about sea depth, underwater features, tides, and navigational hazards. This data is used to create accurate nautical charts, ensuring safe navigation for naval and merchant ships.

Their participation in the Indian Naval Fleet Review 2006 demonstrated the scientific and navigational support role of the Indian Navy.

Commemorative Postage Stamp

To celebrate the Indian Naval Fleet Review 2006, the India Post issued a set of four commemorative postage stamps. These stamps highlight the multidimensional strength of India’s maritime forces, including naval warships, aircraft, submarines, and support vessels.

Among the vessels and aircraft depicted in the stamp series are the ICGS Vigraha, the Dornier Do 228, and the Sandhayak-class survey vessel.

The commemorative stamps honour the dedication, strength, and technological capability of the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard in safeguarding India’s seas.
