About this stamp

On the Sheet

The third of the six miniature sheets, ₹40, with 8 stamps: Allu Ramalingaiah, Ashok Mehta, Balraj Sahni, Bhanumathi, C. V. Sridhar, Chetan Anand, Kamal Amrohi and Geeta Dutt.

100 Years of Indian Cinema

India Post issued fifty ₹5 stamps in six miniature sheets on 3 May 2013, a hundred years to the day after the theatrical release of Dadasaheb Phalke’s Raja Harishchandra, often considered the first full-length Indian feature film, at the Coronation Cinematograph in Girgaon, Bombay. The stamps honour actors, directors, producers, composers, lyricists and singers who shaped a century of Indian cinema across its languages. India Post’s brochure for this issue is not online, so this text draws on Wikipedia and on the stamps themselves.
