About this stamp

On the Sheet

The sixth of the six miniature sheets, ₹40, with 8 stamps: Shammi Kapoor, Shankar–Jaikishan, Smita Patil, Suraiya, Tarachand Barjatya, T. R. Sundaram, Utpal Dutt and Vishnuvardhan.

100 Years of Indian Cinema

India Post issued fifty ₹5 stamps in six miniature sheets on 3 May 2013, a hundred years to the day after the theatrical release of Dadasaheb Phalke’s Raja Harishchandra, often considered the first full-length Indian feature film, at the Coronation Cinematograph in Girgaon, Bombay. The stamps honour actors, directors, producers, composers, lyricists and singers who shaped a century of Indian cinema across its languages. India Post’s brochure for this issue is not online, so this text draws on Wikipedia and on the stamps themselves.
