About this stamp

On the Stamp

A Thomson’s gazelle in full leap. Thomson’s gazelle is one of the best-known gazelles of the savannas of Kenya and Tanzania.

The Third India–Africa Forum Summit

India Post issued six stamps, four at ₹5 and two at ₹25, and a ₹70 miniature sheet on 29 October 2015 for the Third India–Africa Forum Summit, held in New Delhi from 26 to 29 October. They pair animals of India and Africa: the Indian and African rhinoceros, the blackbuck and Thomson’s gazelle, and the Indian and African lion. The first two summits were held in New Delhi in 2008 and Addis Ababa in 2011; the third was the first to which the leaders of all 54 African countries with which India has diplomatic relations were invited. The brochure, in Hindi, recalls the old ties of Indian Ocean trade and culture, the Indian diaspora in Africa and the shared struggle against imperialism, colonialism and apartheid. Trade between India and Africa grew more than twentyfold in fifteen years, to US$72 billion in 2014–15, and more than 24,000 scholarships had been given to African students since the second summit. The stamps were designed by Suresh Kumar; Security Printing Press, Hyderabad printed 0.5 million of each and 0.2 million sheets.
