About this stamp

On the Sheet

A miniature sheet with a single ₹45 stamp of Mother Teresa, hands joined in greeting, with her signature and the years 1910–1997; beside it, in sepia, she holds a child. The sheet carries the emblem of INDEPEX ’97 and the words “Speed Post”.

Mother Teresa

India Post issued this ₹45 miniature sheet on 15 December 1997 for INDEPEX ’97, the world philatelic exhibition; Colnect lists it as the fifth of six issues for the exhibition. Mother Teresa, born Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu, was an Albanian-Indian Catholic nun who founded the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta; she died in 1997 and has since been declared a saint of the Catholic Church. India Post’s brochure for this issue is not online, so this text draws on Wikipedia and on the stamp itself.
