About this stamp
On the Stamp
Glass bottles of sandalwood perfume. Sandalwood is heavy, yellow and fine-grained and, unlike most aromatic woods, keeps its fragrance for decades; the oil distilled from it gives a soft, creamy, woody scent that lasts. In small amounts it acts as a fixative, making the lighter notes of a perfume last longer, which is why it pairs so often with jasmine, tuberose and orange blossom.
India Post issued the Sandalwood and Jasmine stamps on 1 August 2019 as part of its Indian Perfumes series: two ₹25 fragrant stamps and a sheet for each scent. They were designed by Bharati Mirchandani, with the cancellation by Nenu Gupta and text by Pallab Bose; 800,000 of each stamp and 200,000 of each sheet were printed by wet offset at the Security Printing Press, Hyderabad.
