About this stamp

Bhaskar Vishwanath Gokhale

Bhaskar Vishwanath Gokhale (1903–1962) was an Ayurveda physician, teacher and far-sighted advocate of quality postgraduate education and research in Ayurveda. He was one of the early supporters of an integrative medical system, and his methods for increasing the potency of routinely used drugs are known as Ekaushadhi Prayoga. His teaching, says India Post, still guides Ayurveda practitioners decades later.

On the Stamp

His portrait in a white cap, against green circles holding a microscope, a mortar and pestle and plant motifs.

One of twelve ₹5 stamps issued on 30 August 2019 as “Master Healers of AYUSH”, printed together in blocks of twelve. Stamp, first day cover and brochure were developed by Alka Sharma from inputs given by the proponent; 300,000 of each stamp (302,000 of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi) were printed by wet offset at the India Security Press, Nashik.
