About this stamp
Twenty-Five Years of the RAF
India Post issued this ₹5 stamp on 7 October 2017 for the silver jubilee of the Rapid Action Force (RAF), the specialised riot-control force of the Central Reserve Police Force, raised in October 1992. Ten CRPF battalions were selected, trained and re-equipped to form it, stationed at Ahmedabad, Aligarh, Allahabad, Bhopal, Coimbatore, Delhi, Secunderabad, Jamshedpur, Meerut and Mumbai. Its motto is “Serving Humanity with Sensitive Policing”.
Minimum Force
In its blue disrupted-pattern uniform, symbolising peace, and with non-lethal weapons, the RAF aims not to kill or maim but to dissuade rioters, giving victims of riots and natural calamities a sense of security; it has a record of zero tolerance for human rights violations. It received the President’s Colour in 2003, in its eleventh year.
Abroad
RAF contingents have served in United Nations missions in Haiti and in Kosovo, and in January 2007 an RAF contingent went to Monrovia, Liberia, as the first fully operational all-women Formed Police Unit in the history of the United Nations.
The stamp was designed by Kamleshwar Singh; Security Printing Press, Hyderabad printed 655,500.
