India Post issued this ₹5 stamp on 24 October 2013 for Ruchi Ram Sahni (1863–1948), scientist and educationist of pre-partition Punjab, a pioneer of meteorology and physics in India and the father of the palaeobotanist Birbal Sahni. Born at Dera Ismail Khan on 5 April 1863, he made his own way after his family lost its fortune, and stood first in his BA examination in 1884.
