About this stamp

Acharya Gyansagar

India Post issued this ₹5 stamp on 10 September 2013 for Acharya Gyansagar (died 1973), a Digambara Jain acharya of the twentieth century who composed many Sanskrit epics. Born Bhoormal Chhawda at Ranoli in Sikar district, Rajasthan, he gave up his studies after his father’s death to support his family before turning to the monastic life. He initiated Acharya Vidyasagar as a monk in 1968 and made him an acharya in 1972.
