About this stamp
Fifty Years of the CISF
India Post issued two ₹5 stamps, printed together as a pair, on 8 March 2018 for the golden jubilee of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), raised on 10 March 1969. From about 3,000 personnel it had grown to 1,49,088, with its ceiling raised to 1,80,000 in 2017, and served in 336 units across India.
What the CISF Guards
The force protects atomic energy and space installations, airports and seaports, steel plants, coal fields, power plants, defence production units, the Delhi Metro, government buildings and heritage monuments such as the Taj Mahal and the Red Fort, including in areas affected by terrorism. It provides VIP security through its Special Security Group, and since 2009 can also guard private-sector establishments. It is present at 59 international and major airports, where its lost-and-found service helps travellers recover their belongings. 2017 was its “Year of Training”.
On the Stamps
One stamp shows CISF personnel on parade in front of the Red Fort; the other shows them on guard in front of a nuclear power station and other installations they protect. Both carry the force’s golden jubilee logo. They were designed by Kamleshwar Singh, with the cancellation by Alka Sharma, and printed by wet offset at the Security Printing Press, Hyderabad.
