About this stamp

On the Stamp

A child’s painting of a long-haired archer with a quiver of arrows, against bright blocks of orange, red and blue.

Children’s Day 2006

India Post issued two ₹5 stamps and a ₹10 miniature sheet for Children’s Day, 14 November 2006. Children’s Day is kept in India on 14 November, the birthday of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister, who was known for his fondness for children, to raise awareness of children’s rights, education and welfare. The two stamps reproduce the winning paintings of Keval Thakkar and Shivanna T. Madvi in that year’s all-India stamp design competition, whose themes were “My Favourite Mythological Hero” and “My Favourite Fairy Tale”. India Post’s brochure for this issue is not online, so this text draws on Wikipedia, on the issue’s own page on this site and on the stamps themselves.
