About this stamp

Veer Kunwar Singh

Kunwar Singh (1777–1858), chief of Jagdishpur, led the uprising of 1857 in Bihar against the East India Company when he was nearly eighty. He fought his last battle near Jagdishpur on 23 April 1858, defeating the British force, and died of his wounds a few days later.

India Post issued eight ₹5 stamps on 26 December 2016 in a Personality Series: Bihar, designed by Nenu Gupta and Alka Sharma and printed by Security Printing Press, Hyderabad, 2 lakh of each. The brochure’s scan is partly illegible, so these texts also draw on Wikipedia.
