About this stamp

On the Stamp

Shera, the tiger mascot of the Delhi Games, carrying the Queen’s Baton over a map of India, with India Gate, on the ₹5 stamp.

The Queen’s Baton Relay

India Post issued two stamps, ₹5 and ₹20, and a ₹25 miniature sheet on 25 June 2010 for the Queen’s Baton Relay of the XIX Commonwealth Games, held in Delhi in October 2010. The relay carries a message from the Head of the Commonwealth around the world, from Buckingham Palace in London to the opening ceremony of the Games, where it is read aloud; it has been part of every Games since 1958. Both stamps show Shera, the tiger mascot of the Delhi Games. India Post’s brochure for this issue is not online, so this text draws on Wikipedia and on the stamps themselves.
