About this stamp

The Mountain Man

Dashrath Manjhi (1934 – 17 August 2007), the “Mountain Man” of Gehlaur village near Gaya, cut a path 360 feet long, 30 feet wide and 25 feet high through a hill using only a hammer and chisel. His work, which took him some 22 years, shortened the journey between the Atri and Wazirganj blocks from 55 kilometres to 15.

India Post issued eight ₹5 stamps on 26 December 2016 in a Personality Series: Bihar, designed by Nenu Gupta and Alka Sharma and printed by Security Printing Press, Hyderabad, 2 lakh of each. The brochure’s scan is partly illegible, so these texts also draw on Wikipedia.
